i forgot i loved the sea that much…

I remember feeling anxious and a little excited to be on this 27 human strength holiday. Not a fan of crowds , or in fact socializing, I decided to take the giant leap.

It’s been awhile since white sandy beach Boracay, but the moment the ferry docked , Redang took my breath away . Crystal clear waters and powdery white sand , this clearly seemed like paradise island.

We checked into Laguna Redang Resort, together with what seemed like another 100 others .With the easing of Covid restrictions, like us ,everybody clearly needed a trip away from home.We were ushered straight to lunch , while our gang leader sorted our rooms.

We got lucky , our room was practically metres away from the sea. Had some alcohol on the first day , that triggered a nasty migraine the next . Followed by a rocky snorkel trip that kind of killed the groove on day 2.

The downside of Laguna Redang , food sucks .But the views certainly make up for it.

Some of us made it a point to wake up for sunrise every morning followed by a stroll along the Long beach stretch. After all the rain in KL , the sun was a welcoming sight  every morning.

On the first morning , after sunrise , we managed an hour walk by the beach , and stumbled upon a cliff just above Luna Bar .

Spent the day swimming by the sea on day 2 , snorkeling over mostly dead coral ( hotel provides complimentary 2 snorkel trips a day) .It was Aleeyah’s first snorkel trip, and she absolutely loved it.To a point , she wandered off on her own, clearly no fear of the deep blue sea .( very much like her brave father ……..NOT!)

part of the 27 tribe

Lucky for me , I had my forever friend and Vishal take the boat to visit from fancy-pancy part of Redang  . ( RM 110 ringgit boat ride , mind you !). They helped tick off my to-do list , to have a meal at Luna Bar. Probably the best and only nice bar on the island. We spent a couple of hours with beers ,margaritas, pizzas while the kids spent their time painting in a corner.

My ultimate highlight was- I got to swim with turtles. That was truly something I would never ,ever ,ever forget ….ever.

If you ‘re planning a trip, sea view rooms at Laguna are of great value.( unless  you can afford Taara’s ) .We paid RM 2400 for 3 nights ( all meals/ 2 snorkel trips a day/ ferry ride across from Shahbandar Jetty/ seaview room with a queen and 2 single beds ).

Otherwise , Laguna is great ,just skip full board because the food sucks and the complimentary snorkel trips aren’t too spectacular. There ‘s a restaurant nearby , Summer Point that has decently priced food .Many little stalls nearby and a food court attached to the hotel , that has pretty good food. Also ,charter a boat (RM 350 -fits 15) and you can wander the sea at your time and pace .

We managed a snorkel site with corals ,swam with turtles and attempted to see baby sharks , sadly they were hiding that day because of choppy waters. No time limit, worth that RM 350 for sure. ( boat man :019-9958155)

one with the sea

The sun, sea and turtles surely made that long car journey , a worthy one.
